- California: Torrance Memorial Medical Center has received a $32 million gift from Melanie and Richard Lundquist to help establish an orthopedic and spine institute and a neuroscience institute. As a result, CEO Craig Leach said the hospital will no longer need to refer patients elsewhere for neurological services. According to the Los Angeles Times' Soumya Karlamangla, the latest donation means the Lundquists have donated a total of $100 million to the hospital over the past 11 years (Karlamangla, Los Angeles Times, 6/14).
- Massachusetts/North Carolina: Boston Children's Hospital and Duke Health System have teamed up to develop an application using Apple CareKit. In its initial version, Caremap—which is designed for the roughly 500,000 children who have complex medical needs—aims to help loved ones and caregivers track, store, and share health data with providers. However, Boston Children's and Duke plan to incorporate additional capabilities, including connecting the app with certain EHRs and adding secure cloud connectivity (Monegain, Healthcare IT News, 6/14).
- Ohio: Adena Health System has tapped Jeffrey Graham to serve as president and CEO. Graham, who currently works as president and CEO of Mercy Health's east market, will assume his new role on July 31. Graham previously worked at Adena Health System between 2002 and 2012, when he served as COO, chief strategy officer, and multiple other positions (Vaidya, Becker's Hospital Review, 6/14).
