- Michigan: The Michigan Senate has approved seven bills aimed at preventing "doctor shopping" by people who misuse opioids. Among other provisions, the bills would require doctors to consult a prescription database before prescribing any kind of opioids and restrict the amount of opioids that can be prescribed (Eggert, AP/Sacramento Bee, 6/22).
- Nebraska: Fillmore County Hospital has tapped Chris Nichols to serve as CEO. Nichols previously was CEO of Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa. Nichols holds a master's degree in health care administration from the University of Minnesota and is a licensed physical therapist (Vaidya, Becker's Hospital Review, 6/22).
- North Carolina: The Averill Foundation had donated $15,000 to the School of Health Services at Winston-Salem State University to expand its simulation training for nursing students. Winston-Salem State currently has a virtual hospital lab that is used to train nursing students before they participate in clinical rotations. The school plans to use some of the donation to train faculty, as well as purchase a smart medication cart to help train students on EHRs (Seaman, Triad Business Journal, 6/22).
