- Alabama: Thomas Roddy has been selected to serve as COO at Flowers Hospital. Previously, Roddy was the CEO of HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital. He has also held several leadership positions at various hospitals in Tennessee and North Carolina (Vartorella, Becker's Hospital Review, 7/27).
- Maryland: CMS has approved a waiver request to allow Maryland hospitals and doctors to form care-coordination partnerships and share in the resultant savings without the risk of triggering federal anti-kickback laws. Under the waiver, 16 hospitals in the state will join in the Care Redesign Program, with more able to participate in the program next year, Virgil Dickson writes for Modern Healthcare. In addition to facilitating hospital-doctor partnerships, the program—which will run through the end of 2018—aims to make it easier for multiple providers to access a patient's medical data (Dickson, Modern Healthcare, 7/27).
- Washington: Earlier this month, more than 100 high schoolers attended the MultiCare Nurse Camp, which aims to increase diversity in the health care field by inspiring teenagers to consider medical careers. During the five-day camp, participants were able to tour local ORs, EDs, and they also got to use medical devices, practice suturing, and practice inserting IVs on mannequins. The camp, which launched in 2004, is available at no-cost to participants (Bean, Becker's Infection Control & Clinical Quality, 7/27).
