  • Florida: Tampa General Hospital has announced that Judith Ploszek will become the hospital's permanent CFO. Ploszek has served as acting CFO over the past year. Ploszek has been with the institution since 1988 (Vaidya, Becker's Hospital Review, 9/13).

  • Georgia: When Heather Yavaliollah, of suburban Atlanta, went into labor with twins earlier this week she found herself trapped in her home after a storm resulting from Hurricane Irma toppled a tree that blocked her front door. To get Heather to the hospital, her husband, Mehrvarz Yavaliollah, "jumped into action," grabbed a chainsaw, and began cutting down the tree, Fox News reports. Neighbors pitched in to help remove the branches, and Heather was able to get to Piedmont Hospital in time to deliver two health baby boys (Fox News, 9/14).

  • Vermont: The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has awarded a five-year, $9.9 million grant to the Vermont Department of Mental Health. The Associated Press reports that the funding will go toward "a family-centered health care project's comprehensive approach to health," such as emotional, mental, and physical health needs for children and families (AP/Sacramento Bee, 9/13).
