- California: Kaiser Permanente has announced it will open 31 retail clinics at Target stores in Southern California over the next three years. The clinics will be staffed by NPs and vocational nurses, and patients will be able to access physicians via telemedicine. Patients will be able to receive care for diabetes, women's health care services, and minor illnesses, among other health issues (Rege, Becker's Hospital Review, 9/14).
- Massachusetts: The Massachusetts Health and Hospital Association has named Steven Walsh as president and CEO, succeeding Lynn Nicholas, who is retiring after 10 years of service. Walsh previously served as executive director of the Massachusetts Council of Community Hospitals and served six terms in the Massachusetts House of Representatives (Vartorella, Becker's Hospital Review, 9/14).
- New Mexico: NIH has granted $11 million in federal funding to the University of New Mexico School of Medicine to build a new biomedical center. NIH will allocate the grant over a five-year period to fund research into the processes that remove or recycle damaged parts of cells (AP/Sacramento Bee, 9/12).
