- Kentucky: The University of Louisville has received a $13.8 million grant from NIH, which the school will use to study a new type of adult cardiac stem cell that researchers say could be used to treat heart failure. University of Louisville researchers will be looking into ways to repair the heart using a patient's own stem cells (Tribble Greer, Louisville Business First, 10/2).
- Ohio: The Cleveland Clinic has announced that it will offer two co-branded Medicare plans with Humana in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. The plans, called the Humana Cleveland Clinic Preferred Medicare Plans, will include an HMO plan for Medicare beneficiaries, as well as a plan for beneficiaries dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid. The plans will be available beginning on Oct. 15, and coverage will begin Jan. 1, 2018 (Christ, Cleveland Plain Dealer, 10/2).
- Pennsylvania: Clarion Hospital CEO Byron Quinton has announced that he will retire at the end of October. Quinton—who has led the hospital for a decade—is a fellow of the American College of Health Care Administrators, a member of the Hospital Council of Western Pennsylvania, and a former chair of the Hospital Association of Pennsylvania (Vaidya, Becker's Hospital Review, 9/29).
