Around the nation: Couple born in the same hospital, on the same day, marry

Daily Briefing
  • Indiana: Lutheran Health Network has named Paula Autry CEO of Lutheran Hospital. Autry previously worked as CEO of Sinai-Grace Hospital. She also has served on the board of governors of the American College of Healthcare Executives. She will be succeeding Mike Poore, who has been serving as interim CEO (Vaidya, Becker's Hospital Review, 10/3).

  • Massachusetts: Aaron Bairos and Jessica Gomes, who were born at Morton Hospital in Taunton, Massachusetts on April 28, 1990, are now married. While Bairos and Gomes did not grow up together, they connected in high school after the Gomes family moved back to the region when she was 10 years old. They noticed they were born on the same day while taking drivers education classes together (FOX8, 10/4).

  • New Jersey: Under new management, Bergen Regional Medical Center, the largest public hospital in New Jersey, last week was renamed New Bridge Medical Center. Care Plus, a not-for-profit partnership of both substance-misuse treatment providers and mental health professionals took over the hospital after the previous owner, Solomon Health Group, let its contract expire in March (AP/Sacramento Bee, 10/3).

9 elements to improve the quality of your labor & delivery care

Perinatal patient safety toolkit

Perinatal care is a high-volume service, accounting for one-fifth of all hospital stays. Yet it is also highly variable, with significant differences in complication rates for both vaginal and cesarean deliveries between hospitals nationwide.

This toolkit is designed to help hospitals seize the opportunity to strengthen perinatal patient outcomes. It includes best practices and resources collected from organizations that have successfully improved labor and delivery care by reducing clinical variability.
