- Colorado: Police officers from the Aurora Police Department used part of their SWAT team training exercise to surprise patients at Children's Hospital Colorado. The officers dressed as superheroes and rappelled down from the hospital's roof (AP/Seattle Times, 10/17).
- Michigan: McLaren Oakland in Pontiac, Michigan, has named Margaret Dimond as president and CEO. Dimond most recently served as the president and CEO of Crittenton Hospital in Rochester, Michigan. She also has served as president of Karmanos Cancer Hospital in Detroit and CEO of McLaren Medical Group (Vaidya, Becker's Hospital Review, 10/17).
- Nebraska: Carol Petersen, a nurse at Children's Hospital & Medical Center, surprised her patient, seven-year-old Caroline Haas, by mending the girl's stuffed bunny rabbit while she was in surgery for a breathing procedure. Petersen is a sewer and was able to mend the stuffed animal's arm for Haas, who was thrilled to see it when she got out of surgery (O'Connor, Omaha World-Herald, 10/19).
