Around the nation: Sanford Health to celebrate new center opening with Lionel Richie, Fergie

  • Minnesota: Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital has tapped Chuck Bruhn to serve as interim CEO. Bruhn, who has spent more than 30 years in health care executive positions, will succeed Mark Paulson, who is retiring. The hospital has begun a national search for a permanent CEO, which could take three to six months, according to Becker's Hospital Review (Vaidya, Becker's Hospital Review, 5/16).

  • New York: The State Assembly on Tuesday passed a bill that would establish a single-payer health care program designed to cover all state residents. However, the "Medicare-for-all" bill—which has garnered approval in the Assembly twice before—is expected to once again fail in the Senate. The program would require roughly $90 billion annually in new tax revenue (Vilensky, Wall Street Journal, 5/16).

  • North Dakota: To celebrate the grand opening of its new $494 million medical center in Fargo, North Dakota, Sanford Health—based in South Dakota—is throwing a concert for employees that will feature Fergie, Lionel Ritchie, and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz. The concert will take place on June 21. "This is one of the largest active hospital construction projects in the nation, and our employees worked incredibly hard of the last several years to deliver on our promise to build a new medical center in Fargo," health system officials said Monday. "We are thanking them with one evening where they can spend time together celebrating this momentous occasion" (Rosin, Becker's Hospital Review, 5/16).
