Using IT to Improve Medication Management

Using IT to Improve Medication Management

Overburdened clinicians and an ever-growing list of available medications mean hospitals need to take whatever steps necessary to make selecting and administering medicine easier and safer. Many organizations have turned to IT to address this need. Increasingly, central aspects of hospital operations are becoming digitized, and managing the drug supply is no exception.

Technologies that monitor and distribute medications allow health care organizations to optimize patient safety and staff productivity. While these technologies can decrease medication errors and increase efficiency, they are not without their challenges. IT leaders need to carefully consider which innovations to adopt and how to properly embed solutions into clinician workflow.
