From wrong exams to MRI safety, patient safety continues to be a top priority for imaging leaders. Imaging programs have taken important steps to protect imaging patients from harm, including changing protocols to lower radiation dose, implanting MRI safety zones, and creating staff accountability policies. However, as new safety challenges emerge and imaging programs are asked to do more with less, imaging leaders must look for innovative ways to protect patient safety.
A comprehensive approach to imaging patient safety requires two components. First, support imaging staff in acting as patient safety champions. Second, implement new processes that protect patients and staff from harm.
This research briefing highlights strategies and case studies for hardwiring patient safety in imaging programs.
