Promoting Interoperability (PI) requirements are established through the annual CMS rulemaking process. For 2021, the Medicare hospital PI measures and scoring methodology remains the same compared to the previous year. However, the 2021 Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) includes updates to the PI performance category, increasing the number of bonus points that can be earned through the optional Query of Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) measure, and adding an optional alternate measure for Bi-directional Health Information Exchange.
Eligible Hospitals (EHs) and MIPS Eligible Clinicians (ECs) can use this tool to estimate their PI score based on current performance, and target improvement goals.
