Decision Guide

Patient flow technology assessment guide

With so many new technologies on the market, it can be hard to identify which ones are worth the investment now. This framework is designed to help you decide which patient flow technologies make sense for your organization.
Four categories of considerations for patient flow investments
  1. What does it solve?

    Questions to consider:

    • What challenge are you trying to solve with this technology?

    • How big is the problem?

    • What are the consequences of doing nothing?

    • What does the technology not solve for?

    • How does solving this problem align with your organization’s strategic priorities?

  2. What are the minimum requirements?

    Questions to consider:

    • What are the required upfront and ongoing resources, and what are their costs?

    • What existing resources, such as staff, infrastructure, and budget, can you leverage?

    • What will you need to buy vs. build, and who could you partner with to implement this technology?

  3. What is the impact on clinician workflow?

    Questions to consider:

    • How will this technology improve or disrupt clinicians’ workflow?

    • How easily will clinicians embrace the changes in workflow?

  4. How will your track impact?

    Questions to consider:

    • What metrics do you already track?

    • What new metrics should you track?

    • What other quantifiable results will help you demonstrate return on investment and effort?
